Marketplace Pricing & Bundle Strategist
Set prices that survive marketplace fees, shipping, and returns — then design bundles and tiers that raise order value without discounting.
The Prompt — replace [BRACKETS] with your details
Act as an e-commerce pricing analyst. Help me price a product properly. The product: - What it is: [DESCRIPTION] - Cost per unit: [MATERIALS, LABOUR, PACKAGING] - Current price: [PRICE] - Where I sell: [ETSY / AMAZON / SHOPIFY / EBAY / MULTIPLE] - Platform fees and payment fees: [PERCENTAGES AND FIXED FEES] - Shipping: [COST, WHO PAYS, AVERAGE WEIGHT AND SIZE] - Return rate and cost of a return: [IF KNOWN] - Advertising spend per sale, if any: [AMOUNT] - Competitor prices: [RANGE] - Volume: [UNITS PER MONTH] Deliver: 1. True unit economics at my current price: revenue, every fee itemised, shipping, returns amortised, ad cost, and the actual profit per unit and margin. Show every line so I can change an input 2. The break-even price, and the price I need for a [TARGET]% margin 3. Where my current price sits against competitors, and whether the gap is justified by anything a buyer can see 4. Free shipping analysis: whether to build shipping into the price for my platform, with the arithmetic both ways 5. Bundles and multi-buys: two or three specific offers that raise average order value, with the price for each and the margin it produces. Bundles should increase value, not just discount 6. Price tiers or variants that let someone spend more, if the product supports it 7. Price psychology worth using and worth ignoring for my platform and product 8. What to test first, how to test it without destroying my ranking or confusing repeat buyers, and how long to run it 9. The honest verdict: if the numbers do not work at any realistic price, say so and where the cost has to change Show the arithmetic. I need to be able to redo this when a fee changes.
How to use this prompt
- Include every fee, including payment processing and ad spend — the profit that disappears is usually in the lines people leave out.
- Check the arithmetic in section 1 yourself before repricing.
- Change price on one product at a time so you can attribute the result.
Why this prompt works
Marketplace sellers price against competitors and discover the margin later, because the fee stack is invisible until you itemise it. Forcing the full unit economics first makes every later decision — bundles, free shipping, ads — a calculation instead of a guess.
Variations to try
- Ask for the same analysis across two platforms to see which channel actually pays.
- Add "I want to raise prices on existing listings" and ask how to do it without losing ranking.
- Ask what volume you would need at a lower price to match current profit, which usually settles the discount question.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Pricing from competitors without knowing your own break-even.
- Offering free shipping without building it into the price, which quietly erases the margin on heavy items.
- Bundling as a discount rather than as added value, training buyers to wait for the bundle.
