Search Intent Classifier & Page Matcher

Sort a keyword list by what the searcher actually wants, then map each group to the page type that can rank for it.

The Prompt — replace [BRACKETS] with your details

Act as an SEO strategist. Classify a keyword list by intent and map it to pages.

My keywords:
"""
[PASTE THE LIST, ONE PER LINE — INCLUDE VOLUME AND DIFFICULTY IF YOU HAVE THEM]
"""

Context:
- What my site sells or does: [DESCRIPTION]
- Pages that already exist: [LIST URLS AND WHAT EACH TARGETS]
- Domain strength, honestly: [NEW / ESTABLISHED / STRONG IN THIS NICHE]

Deliver:
1. A table: keyword, intent (informational, commercial investigation, transactional, navigational), what the searcher is actually trying to do, and the content format that ranks for that intent
2. Keyword clusters — groups that should live on ONE page because they are the same intent phrased differently, with the primary term for each cluster. Splitting these across pages is how sites cannibalise themselves
3. Keywords that need a page I do not have, versus keywords an existing page should target better. Name the existing URL
4. Keywords I should not chase at all, with the reason: wrong intent for my business, dominated by publishers or marketplaces, or too broad for my domain strength
5. For each recommended page: the format (guide, comparison, tool, listicle, product page), the angle, and what the page must contain to satisfy the intent
6. Priority order, factoring effort against my domain strength rather than volume alone
7. Where my existing pages compete with each other for the same intent, and which to consolidate

Be honest about what a site at my strength cannot rank for this year.

How to use this prompt

  • Check the real search results for two or three keywords per cluster; the model is inferring intent, not observing the SERP.
  • Act on section 7 first — fixing cannibalisation is faster than publishing new pages.
  • Do not target a transactional keyword with a blog post, however good the post is.

Why this prompt works

Most keyword lists get sorted by volume, which ignores whether the page you plan can satisfy the searcher at all. Classifying by intent first, then clustering, prevents the two most expensive SEO mistakes: the wrong format and three pages fighting over one query.

Variations to try

  • Paste the top ten results for a keyword and ask what intent the ranking pages actually serve.
  • Add "we are a small site competing with large publishers" for a long-tail-first plan.
  • Ask for the internal linking plan between the clusters once the pages exist.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Trusting the model's guess at search volume or difficulty. It does not have live data — use a real tool.
  • Building a separate page for every keyword variant and splitting your own rankings.
  • Chasing high-volume head terms from a new domain and publishing for a year with nothing to show.
