Local SEO & Google Business Profile Optimizer
Get a prioritised local SEO plan: profile fields, categories, review strategy, service pages, and the citation cleanup that actually moves the map pack.
The Prompt — replace [BRACKETS] with your details
Act as a local SEO specialist. Build a plan for a business that needs to show up in local search. The business: - Name, category, and what it does: [DETAILS] - Location(s) and service area: [ADDRESSES, OR RADIUS IF SERVICE-AREA BUSINESS] - Website: [URL AND WHAT PAGES EXIST] - Google Business Profile status: [CLAIMED / UNCLAIMED / WHAT IS ON IT] - Reviews: [COUNT AND AVERAGE, AND ON WHICH PLATFORMS] - Main local competitors: [NAMES] - Services and the terms customers use for them: [LIST — USE CUSTOMER LANGUAGE, NOT INDUSTRY JARGON] Deliver: 1. Google Business Profile: primary and secondary categories with the reasoning, services to list, attributes, description, photo plan (what to shoot and how often), and the posting cadence that is worth the effort 2. NAP consistency: what exactly must match everywhere, the citation sources worth fixing for my category, and how to find bad ones 3. Review strategy: when to ask, how to ask without violating platform rules, a request template, and response templates for a five-star, a three-star, and an unfair one-star 4. Website: the location and service page structure, what each page needs, the schema markup to add, and the internal links between them 5. Local content that earns links and relevance, specific to my area rather than generic blog posts 6. The map pack ranking factors I can influence, ranked by effort versus impact for my situation 7. A 30-day action list in order, with which items are one-off and which are ongoing Flag anything that varies by country or platform policy, and tell me to verify the current rules.
How to use this prompt
- Fix the Business Profile categories first; the primary category constrains what you can rank for at all.
- Verify review-request rules on each platform yourself — policies change and the penalties are real.
- Use the words customers use in the services list, not the technical name for the service.
Why this prompt works
Local ranking is driven by a small set of controllable inputs — categories, proximity, reviews, consistency — but advice online mixes them with general SEO. Ranking the factors by effort against your specific situation puts the profile work, which is cheap and fast, ahead of content work that takes months.
Variations to try
- Add "we have five locations" for a plan covering multi-location structure and duplicate content risk.
- Ask for a competitor teardown: what their profile does that yours does not.
- Ask for the review response templates alone, expanded, if reputation is the immediate problem.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Incentivising or gating reviews, which risks removal of your reviews and worse.
- A different phone number or suite format across directories, which quietly undermines everything else.
- One page listing all services, when each service needs its own page to rank for its own term.
